Description

Join Fairfax police, fire and rescue, emergency services, 911 professionals, The Arc of Northern Virginia, and community partners for a free, interactive day focused on safety, preparedness, and positive first responder interactions.

This event is designed to help individuals of all abilities feel more confident and prepared during emergencies. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how and when to call 911 and what to expect during the call

  • Practice Hands-Only CPR techniques

  • Gain practical tips for safe and positive interactions with police and first responders

  • Participate in interactive demonstrations with fire, rescue, and law enforcement personnel

  • Pick up a free Blue Envelope to help disclose a disability during a traffic stop or emergency

Why this matters:
People with disabilities experience violent victimization at nearly four times the rate of people without disabilities, according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics. Research also shows that a significant portion of challenging police incidents involve individuals with disabilities. Preparation, communication, and understanding can make a meaningful difference in safety outcomes and community trust.

This event is open to individuals with disabilities, family members, caregivers, educators, service providers, and anyone interested in learning how to stay safe and build positive relationships with first responders.

Come learn life-saving skills, ask questions, meet your local emergency professionals, and leave better prepared and empowered.
